Hearing from our customers is very fulfilling and rewarding. Here is a sampling of letters, emails and messages we have received.

Peter, We just want to tell you two how much joy your bookcases are bringing to our lives. We read a lot and I've made a point of putting books in them that I access regularly, so I get to go and open the doors and smell the beautiful new finish. . . . They are just absolutely beautiful. They go so gorgeously in our living room. . . . You've hit the ball out of the park with these bookcases! Thanks, Jason D., New Jersey

His broad understanding of historical design and technical skills makes Peter Maynard a treasure. Emily G., New York, whose house is largely furnished with Peter's designs.

Peter Maynard is a virtuoso in a broad range of traditional European styles-and the nuances of their regional American interpretations. Traditional Home Magazine from an article titled The 20th Century Masters: Five of the Country's Best Furnituremakers

We have commissioned many pieces from Peter during the past decade in various styles, running from Arts & Crafts and Oriental to Neo-classical. We are particularly proud to have two large Braced Arch dining tables in cherry and walnut that are focal pieces in our homes. Over the years, we have commissioned furniture from various accomplished furniture makers, but now rely exclusively on Peter. He is the best, and is able to imaginatively design and meticulously execute pieces in any style and material. The pleasure of receiving delivery of one of Peter’s pieces is exceeded only by working with Peter and Marcie themselves. Robert H., New York

It is an honor to include one of your creations to my furniture collection. The bow front side table is clean, timeless and elegantly proportioned. It's a perfect fit with my eclectic melange of artifacts. . . and looks tailor-made to that bay-window niche. Bill M., Connecticut

Peter Maynard's furniture reveals remarkable skill and a willingness to work with the whole rich history of his craft-from the ancient to the cutting edge. Woodwork Magazine from the cover story titled Adventures at the Edge: The Work of Peter Maynard

I thought you might want to see how great the two tables you made look in my client's house in Carbondale Colorado! I think they look fantastic! I hope you agree! Thanks so much for getting it all done and delivered in time for my installation! We appreciate your beautiful craftsmanship and doing what was required to get it all here on time! All the best to you both! Judy R., Colorado

I wanted to let you know that the case arrived and looks wonderful. Both of us are very pleased. Kevin D., California

My wife and I were looking for just the right table that was not a full dining room table but could be used for dinner for just the two of us or for planning our calendars etc. We have a Frank Lloyd Wright/mission style home. My wife came upon the Cold River Furniture website. We fell in love with this small elliptical table that seemed perfect but maybe was not exactly the right wood color. Marcie at Cold River was kind enough to take several pictures for us in different lighting. We also discussed with her perhaps having a table custom made for us. In the end we choose the table we originally fell in love with. The two of us have dinner almost every night on it and it has also worked great when the occasional child (or adults) comes to visit! Very satisfied customer. Mark B., California

I love the furniture and it looks great in my son's room. My oldest son and daughter love it too and would also like furniture. But, I am thinking in the future as a wedding present, perhaps. Tyler C., Tennessee

Your sofa and morris chair are delightful. . . . It's hard to sit anywhere else. Mark T., Texas

We received the chair yesterday. It is the most beautiful piece of furniture in our home. My husband is delighted with it. We actually are thinking of getting another coordinating chair so we both have one. Thank you for the great display of your talents. Pat M., North Carolina

I'm absolutely thrilled to have the pieces, they're really beautiful. I just think the craftsmanship, and the patina, and the Arts & Crafts look is just so perfect. I'm just enthralled with them. So thank you so much for everything. What fun this project turned out to be! Both being in touch with you and the anticipation of knowing that your lovely pieces will be in our home. Many thanks for walking me through the process. Annie A., Maine

Please know that as a fellow crafts person I not only can relate to the painstaking process that you are going through to make the bed, but that Deb and I cherish knowing that there is some of your humanity that goes into the process. We are thrilled to be a part of your world and that we will be able to enjoy what you have done for the rest of our lives. With profound respect. J. & D., New Jersey

My first glance of the New World Secretary Desk was enough to convince me it was a masterpiece of both conception and execution. Peter, with his sophisticated design sense, has fused the aesthetics of several historical styles to create a style all his own. The resulting piece is a timeless and resolved harmony of curves and angles. The finish, joinery and detailing, inside and out, are similarly masterful. Even better, the desk is most utilitarian. Greg M., New Hampshire

We approached Peter and Marcie Maynard of Cold River Furniture when we needed a pair of special chairs. Over years of attending the Arts and Craft show at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, we had always found ourselves drawn to their display. Both Peter and his wife, Marcie, are warm, welcoming people who are happy to demonstrate and explain the design features of Peter’s work. Our chairs are not only perfect representations of the Arts and Craft style, but are innovatively made from tiger maple and like no other chairs we have ever seen. We have bought other pieces of furniture from the Maynard’s over the years and discussed even more with them; their kindness, humor and patience in the face of our sometimes indecisive approach is beyond price. We have no hesitation in recommending Peter Maynard and Cold River Furniture to anyone who wants their furniture, however functional, to be a work of art. Doug & Su M., North Carolina

A Special Piece of Furniture! Every time we walk into the house that's what we think when we see the beautiful casepiece hand built by Peter Maynard at Cold River Furniture. We use the piece as a showcase for some Inuit carvings and sculptures that we've collected in the Canadian Arctic over the years. Beyond that we use it to house a few special books. The design process was a real pleasure. Peter & Marcie provided great advice and even sent out some samples of glass for us to look at before we made our final decision. Truly glad that I took Peter's advice and had him select some curly maple for the case. We have many other custom designed pieces of furniture in our house - but this piece truly stands out above all the others as a work of art. The piece sits in our great room with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Blue is spectacular, but more often than not our guests ask us where we got the beautiful casepiece - and we tell them that they can't take the ocean with them, but maybe there's something special from Cold River Furniture that will become a Special Piece of Furniture in their home too. Kevin and Linda D., California

Your website caught our attention as we were creating an arts and crafts theme for our home. The book/display cases were exactly what was needed to flank our fireplace. Project discussions with you and Marcie proved to be most fruitful. The cabinets arrived safely and we are so pleased with them. The beautiful workmanship is superlative and the handmade glass in the doors is a nice finishing touch. We have also received several compliments about how lovely they are. Working with you was refreshing and delightful. Tom and Hildy S., Washington.
